  6. N.B. This application is Freeware and as such can be distributed
  7. freely as long as no profit is made and any charges cover only postage or
  8. media. I retain the copyright and the application must be distributed in its
  9. entirety (including this !Help file)

  11. This application was written to allow patches for CZ-101 or CZ-1000
  12. synthesizers to be stored and edited easily. A MIDI interface corresponding
  13. to the Acorn standard must be present in order for the program to run.
  14.  
  15. If you are familiar with programming a CZ the parameters shown will
  16. be self-explanatory. If not, then read the manual as I do not have room to
  17. go into it here! A few points however:
  18.  
  19. 1. The two rows of small bars underneath each envelope represent the
  20. END (red) and SUS (black) positions 
  21.  
  22. 2. If a writable icon is selected then the UP and DOWN icons in the
  23. appropriate window will alter the parameters
  24.  
  25. 3. Clicking on light yellow boxes or waveforms (e.g. Line Select)
  26. will alter the contents
  27.  
  28. 4. To load a patch from the keyboard, set the MIDI channel and
  29. voices number as appropriate and then select GET VOICE from the menu.
  30.  
  31. 5. The menu options are as follows
  32.

  34.      Info       -> Look and learn
  35.      Save       -> For saving your patch on disk
  36.      Send voice -> To send the voice being edited to the CZ
  37.      Get voice  -> To get the selected voice from the CZ   
  38.      Set name   -> Selecting this will make the save filename equal to the
  39.                    voice last downloaded (e.g. Internal1). This is very
  40.                    useful for dumping the voices to disk as a backup without
  41.                    having to think up names.   
  42.      Temp Send  -> When selected, any voice sent to the keyboard will
  43.                    not be stored anywhere, but will only be resident in the
  44.                    temporary space (i.e. can still be played and edited
  45.                    but will be lost if voice changed). This can be stored as
  46.                    normal using the WRITE button.
  47.      Graph ...  -> Opens a window allowing the envelopes to be edited
  48.                 graphically.           
  49.      Quit       -> Gets rid of the CZEdit (N.B. does not ask for
  50.                    confirmation)

  52. 6. If TEMP SEND is not selected than any voice sent will overwrite that in
  53. the keyboard, so be careful.
  54. 7. Any bugs, hints, questions, money or interesting patches should be sent to
  55. the address at the end.
  56. 8. The graph window is not perfect, but is quite usable. The slope of a
  57. segment with a rate of 0 is exaggerated so that it is easily seen.

  61. The protect switch on the back of the keyboard
  62. must be set to OFF for the keyboard to receive
  63. data. Also, the keyboard does not respond to
  64. system exclusive data if the MIDI channel is not
  65. set to 1. Very weird.

  69. History:
  70.  
  71. 1.00 All icons in one large window. Only one set of eight icons for both END and SUS parameters.
  72.  
  73. 1.01 Decided on two banks of radio icons for END and SUS. FormEd crashed
  74. whilst saving (too many icons I suspect), so I split it into two windows. I
  75. got input and output files to correspond on 4/1/93
  76.  
  77. 1.02 Save window disappears after saving and filename is updated. When
  78. downloading a patch, the icons are not updated one by one as when the
  79. envelope window is open, this is very slow.

  81. 1.03 Can now load from disk at last! Alter file format so that voice number
  82. is saved as well 
  83.  
  84. 1.04 Pressing RETURN now moves the caret through the windows. Everything
  85. seems to work as expected!
  86.  
  87. 1.05 Steps after END are blanked out and the END level is unwritable.
  88. Unfortunately this negates the speeding up of v1.02! (As Wimp_SetIconState
  89. updates the screen)
  90.  
  91. 1.06 Patches can now be downloaded permanently instead of into the
  92. temporary workspace in the keyboard.
  93.  
  94. 1.07 Various bugs corrected. If keyboard does not respond after 2 seconds
  95. then an error is produced (previously it crashed!). Caret inserted at
  96. correct position.
  97.  
  98. 1.08 Sorted out slow screen redraw. First release
  99.  
  100. 1.09 Enormous bugfix. Basically it didn't work. And now it does :)
  101.  
  102. 1.10 Graphic envelope editing and general smartening up. Some 3D templates.
  103.  
  104. 1.11 Can be used without a MIDI interface, i.e. checks for presence and then
  105. greys out irrelevant menu options.
  106.  
  107. 1.12 Small bug-fix. Altered templates to allow for proportional fonts in icons
  108. (as I've just got my RiscPC).
